The LA MerMaiden traced a natural arc down the Southern California and Baja coastline — one sea day to settle into ship life, then three consecutive port days before returning to LA. It was a well-paced mix of relaxation and exploration.

Port-by-Port Guide: What to Do at Each Stop

Day 3 — Santa Barbara: The American Riviera (10 Hours in Port)

Santa Barbara earns its “American Riviera” nickname honestly. With a Mediterranean climate, Spanish colonial architecture, and the Santa Ynez Mountains as a dramatic backdrop, it’s one of the most beautiful coastal cities in the United States.

With 10 hours in port, you have real time to explore. Mission Santa Barbara is a must — a beautifully preserved 19th-century Spanish mission with lush gardens and a fascinating museum. The Funk Zone near the waterfront is a walkable neighborhood packed with wine tasting rooms, craft breweries, and local art galleries. Stroll Stearns Wharf for ocean views and fresh seafood, or venture into the Santa Ynez wine country if you’re up for a short day trip. The Gaslamp Quarter is the heartbeat of downtown — blocks of historic buildings filled with restaurants, rooftop bars, and live music venues. History buffs should visit the USS Midway Museum, a retired aircraft carrier permanently docked in the harbor. Balboa Park is a sprawling urban oasis with 17 museums, performing arts venues, and the world-famous San Diego Zoo right next door. Day 5 — Ensenada, Mexico: Vibrant Baja Flavors (8.5 Hours in Port)

What’s Included in Your Fare (And What’s Not)
