Why New Departure Ports Matter (And Why 2026 Is the Year to Book)

If you wanted to sail Virgin Voyages from the United States, Miami was your only option—European and Caribbean homeports aside. Starting spring 2026, that changes. Virgin expands to Los Angeles, New York City, and Seattle. Below, we break down every sailing from each new U.S. port with itinerary highlights, insider tips, and direct booking links with complimentary VIP support.
Virgin Voyages’ expansion into Los Angeles, NYC, and Seattle isn’t just a convenience play—it represents a fundamental shift in the brand’s strategy. Here’s why it matters for you as a Sailor:
- No more cross-country flights. West Coast and East Coast Sailors can now drive to their ship, saving hundreds in airfare and eliminating the stress of flight delays on embarkation day.
- Brand-new itineraries. The Mexican Riviera, Pacific Coast, Alaska, Bermuda, and even a 17-night Panama Canal transit—none of these were available on Virgin before.
- Brilliant Lady’s debut. The fleet’s newest ship (and the fourth in the lineup) launches many of these voyages. She features the same 20+ restaurant, adults-only, no-kids formula—plus brand-new design touches exclusive to her class.
- Inaugural pricing won’t last. MerMaiden (inaugural) sailings and first-season itineraries typically launch at lower price points than repeat-season voyages. Once demand data confirms popularity, fares climb. The VoyageFair fare system means prices can shift daily based on demand.
Inaugural sailings from new ports come with a unique perk: smaller crowds. Because these are brand-new itineraries with no repeat-Sailor base yet, the ship often sails under full capacity—meaning shorter lines at restaurants, easier spa bookings, and more elbow room at the pool deck. We saw this with Resilient Lady’s Athens debut and Brilliant Lady’s early Caribbean sailings. Book now and enjoy the quiet before the word spreads.

From Los Angeles: Brilliant Lady’s West Coast Home
This is the one West Coast cruisers have been waiting for. Brilliant Lady—Virgin’s newest ship—docks at the World Cruise Center in San Pedro (the same terminal complex used by other major cruise lines at the Port of Los Angeles). From here, she fans out across some of the most stunning coastline in the Americas.
Here’s every LA sailing we’re booking right now, organized by itinerary type.
Mexican Riviera & Baja Sailings from LA
These are Virgin’s bread-and-butter West Coast voyages—warm-weather getaways to Mexico’s Pacific coast with stops in Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlán, and Ensenada. Multiple lengths and itineraries to fit your schedule.

LA MerMaiden (5 Nights)
This is Brilliant Lady’s inaugural West Coast sailing—the very first Virgin Voyages cruise to depart from Los Angeles. MerMaiden voyages are a tradition: they’re the christening sailings that launch a ship in a new market, complete with special events, exclusive merch, and a once-in-a-lifetime atmosphere. Ports include Santa Barbara, San Diego, and Ensenada. If you’re a Virgin loyalist or you want to say you were on the first LA sailing, this is it.
California (and Mexico) Dreamin’ (6 Nights)
A relaxed 6-night round trip from LA to Cabo San Lucas and Mazatlán. This is the sweet spot for Sailors who want a proper Mexican Riviera taste without committing to a full week. Two sea days give you plenty of time to explore Brilliant Lady’s 20+ restaurants, the Redemption Spa, and the Athletic Club.
Hollywood Sunsets & Mexican Horizons (7 Nights)
The full Mexican Riviera experience. Seven nights round trip from LA visiting Mazatlán, Puerto Vallarta, and Cabo San Lucas—three of Mexico’s best Pacific ports. This itinerary runs multiple dates throughout the LA season, so there’s flexibility on timing. The 7-night length is ideal: long enough to feel like a real vacation, short enough for a single week of PTO.
Mexican Riviera (7 Nights)
A second 7-night Mexican Riviera variant with a slightly different port rotation. If the Hollywood Sunsets dates don’t line up with your schedule, check this itinerary—same general region, different departure dates, and potentially different port ordering that could mean a better experience at each stop.
LA Short Sailing (5 Nights)
A shorter 5-night option from LA for Sailors who want a long-weekend-style getaway. Perfect for first-time cruisers testing the waters (literally) or Virgin veterans squeezing in a quick escape. Shorter sailings also tend to have younger, more social energy onboard—think Grog Walk bar crawls and late-night pool deck parties.
Pacific Coast & Vancouver Sailings from LA
These voyages head north instead of south—tracing the stunning California, Oregon, and British Columbia coastlines up to Vancouver. They’re some of the most scenic routes in the entire Virgin fleet and serve as the bridge between the LA season and Brilliant Lady’s Alaska season out of Seattle.

LA Lights & Vancouver Vistas (8 Nights)
This is a one-way voyage from Los Angeles to Vancouver, stopping at Catalina Island, San Francisco, Astoria (Oregon), and Victoria (British Columbia) along the way. It’s a repositioning sailing—meaning Brilliant Lady is moving from her LA homeport to the Pacific Northwest for Alaska season—and repositioning sailings are some of the best values in cruising. More sea days, fewer crowded ports, and typically lower fares than standard itineraries.
Pacific Coast (9 Nights)
A longer Pacific Coast voyage with more time to soak in the scenery. Nine nights along the western seaboard connecting Los Angeles and the Pacific Northwest. If you’ve ever driven the Pacific Coast Highway and thought “this would be incredible from a ship”—this is that sailing.
The LA-to-Vancouver sailings are one-way, so you’ll need to arrange your own return transportation. Many of our clients book a cheap one-way flight from Vancouver to LAX (often under $150), or better yet—extend the trip with a few days exploring Vancouver or Victoria. We can help you plan the full logistics. Also, one-way sailings sometimes qualify for unique Sailor Loot promotions that round-trip voyages don’t.
The Bucket-List Sailing: Panama Canal Collective (17 Nights)
This is for the Sailor who wants to go big. Seventeen nights, six countries, and a full transit through the Panama Canal—one of the engineering wonders of the modern world. You’ll start in LA and end in Miami, winding through Central America with stops in Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, and Colombia along the way.
At 17 nights, this sailing gives you serious time to explore the ship. You’ll hit every restaurant multiple times, build genuine friendships with fellow Sailors, and experience sea days that actually feel relaxing instead of rushed. The Grog Walk hits different when you’ve known your bar crawl crew for two weeks.
From New York City: Valiant Lady Sails to Bermuda & Beyond
New York gets its own Virgin Voyages season in 2026, with Valiant Lady sailing from the Manhattan cruise terminal. For the roughly 50 million people within driving distance of NYC, this eliminates the biggest barrier to trying Virgin: the flight to Miami.
The signature NYC sailing is a 5-night round trip to Bermuda—one of the most popular short-cruise itineraries in the industry, now with Virgin’s adults-only twist. Pink sand beaches, no kids on the ship, and 20+ included restaurants instead of a buffet line.
The Big Apple to Bermuda (5 Nights)

Five nights round trip from Manhattan to Kings Wharf, Bermuda. The voyage includes an overnight in port, giving you a full day and evening on the island—enough time for the pink sand beaches at Horseshoe Bay, the Royal Naval Dockyard, snorkeling, and a proper Bermuda fish sandwich. Two sea days round out the trip with plenty of time to enjoy the ship.
This sailing also overlaps with themed sailing events—including the April 11 Comedy Fest voyage featuring Jack Whitehall performing live in Bermuda. If you’re choosing a NYC sailing date, the Comedy Fest edition is the one to beat.
More NYC Sailings Coming
Beyond Bermuda, Valiant Lady’s NYC season includes Canada & New England fall foliage voyages (September–October) and potentially longer itineraries. The full NYC sailing calendar for late 2026 is still being finalized. Contact us to be first in line when new NYC dates drop—we’ll match you to the best itinerary and cabin at launch pricing.
The Manhattan cruise terminal is in Midtown West, which means taxis and rideshares from anywhere in the city are straightforward. But if you’re driving from the suburbs or another state, know that parking at the terminal is limited and expensive. We recommend staying at a hotel near the port the night before and taking a short cab ride to the terminal on embarkation morning. Also: New York embarkation days tend to run later than Miami, so plan accordingly.
From Seattle: Virgin Voyages’ First-Ever Alaska Season

This is the headline. The one everyone in the cruise world is talking about. Virgin Voyages is going to Alaska—and it’s the first time a major adults-only cruise line has sailed the Inside Passage.
Think about what that means: glaciers and whale watching without a single kid screaming at the buffet. Ketchikan and Juneau without fighting through family tour groups on the dock. A cocktail on the aft deck watching a calving glacier, surrounded exclusively by adults who chose this exact experience.
Brilliant Lady operates approximately 17 Alaska voyages from Seattle between May and September 2026, with itineraries ranging from 7 to 12 nights. Port calls include Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, Icy Strait Point, Tracy Arm Fjord, Hubbard Glacier, Victoria, and Prince Rupert (British Columbia).
The MerMaiden: Brilliant Lady’s Inaugural Alaska Sailing
The very first Virgin Voyages Alaska cruise departs Seattle on May 21, 2026. Like the LA MerMaiden, this is a christening event—the inaugural voyage in a brand-new market. Expect special onboard celebrations, exclusive merchandise, and the unique energy of being on the first adults-only Alaska sailing in history. This one is booking fast.
What Makes Alaska on Virgin Different
Alaska is one of the most popular cruise destinations in the world, but it’s traditionally dominated by family-oriented mega-ships carrying 4,000+ passengers. Virgin’s entry changes the equation:
- Adults-only, 2,770-passenger capacity—significantly smaller than the 4,000–5,000-passenger ships from traditional lines, meaning less crowded ports and more intimate glacier viewing.
- 20+ included restaurants instead of a single main dining room and buffet. Imagine fresh Alaskan seafood at The Wake or The Test Kitchen while watching the Inside Passage slide by.
- Redemption Spa & Athletic Club—the perfect complement to active shore excursions in Juneau and Ketchikan.
- No formal nights, no assigned dining times. Virgin’s signature casual luxury means you explore Alaska your way, on your schedule.
- Richard’s Rooftop and The Perch—outdoor lounges on Decks 16 and 17 that become prime glacier-viewing spots.
Book Your Alaska Sailing
Alaska sailings are the highest-demand itineraries in the 2026 lineup—the inaugural MerMaiden and peak summer dates are already filling up. We’re actively booking Alaska voyages for our clients and can match you with the best itinerary length, cabin category, and sailing date for your group.
Alaska itineraries from Seattle aren’t listed in the standard booking links below (they’re handled through our direct allocation), so contact us directly for Alaska availability, pricing, and cabin selection. As Top 100 First Mates, we have early visibility into Alaska cabin inventory and can often secure cabins that show as unavailable on the website.
Alaska is not the Caribbean. Temperatures range from 45–65°F (7–18°C) in summer, and it can rain at any port. Pack layers, a waterproof jacket, and binoculars for glacier and wildlife viewing. For the best combination of weather and wildlife, we recommend late June through mid-August—longer daylight hours (up to 18 hours), warmer temps, and peak whale watching season. May and September are cooler but offer fewer crowds and northern lights potential.

Frequently Asked Questions: Virgin Voyages from LA, NYC & Seattle
Which ship sails from Los Angeles in 2026?
Brilliant Lady, Virgin Voyages’ newest ship (and the fourth in the fleet), homeports at the Port of Los Angeles from April through October 2026. She offers the same 20+ restaurant, adults-only experience as the rest of the fleet, plus design updates exclusive to her class.
Which ship sails from New York City in 2026?
Valiant Lady operates seasonal sailings from Manhattan in April and September–October 2026. NYC is not a year-round homeport—Valiant Lady’s primary base is in the Caribbean—so the NYC sailing windows are limited. Book early to secure your preferred date.
Does Virgin Voyages sail from Seattle?
Yes. Brilliant Lady homeports in Seattle from May through September 2026 for her inaugural Alaska season. This marks the first time a major adults-only cruise line has offered Alaska itineraries. Seattle sailings include 7- to 12-night Inside Passage voyages visiting Ketchikan, Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, and glacier destinations.
How do I get from Los Angeles to the cruise terminal?
The World Cruise Center in San Pedro (Port of Los Angeles) is approximately 30 minutes south of downtown LA and 45 minutes from LAX, depending on traffic. Rideshare is the easiest option. If you’re flying in the day before, consider staying at a hotel near the port to avoid embarkation-morning stress.
Are the LA-to-Vancouver sailings round trip?
No. The LA Lights & Vancouver Vistas (8N) and Pacific Coast (9N) voyages are one-way repositioning sailings from Los Angeles to the Pacific Northwest. You’ll need to arrange your own return transportation (a one-way flight from Vancouver to LAX is typically very affordable). Repositioning sailings often have lower per-night fares than standard round trips.
Is the Panama Canal sailing round trip?
No. The Picturesque Panama Canal Collective (17N) is a one-way voyage from Los Angeles to Miami. It’s a repositioning sailing as Brilliant Lady moves back to the Caribbean for winter season. You’ll need a one-way flight home from Miami (or extend your trip in South Florida).
Can I book Alaska sailings online?
Alaska itineraries from Seattle are available through Virgin Voyages, but for the best cabin selection and pricing, we recommend contacting us directly. As Top 100 First Mates, we have early visibility into Alaska cabin inventory and can often access cabins that show as unavailable on the standard booking site.
Do I need travel insurance for these sailings?
We strongly recommend it, especially for the longer repositioning sailings (LA to Vancouver, Panama Canal) and Alaska voyages where weather-related itinerary changes are possible. We recommend Faye Travel Insurance—it covers trip cancellation, medical emergencies, and itinerary disruptions, and you can purchase it right up until the day before departure.
What fare type should I choose?
Virgin Voyages uses the VoyageFair dynamic pricing system with Base, Essential, and Premium tiers. For most Sailors, we recommend at minimum the Essential fare (which includes WiFi and the Bar Tab). For longer sailings like the Panama Canal, Premium may offer better per-night value. Ask us and we’ll run the numbers for your specific voyage.
Ready to Sail from LA, NYC, or Seattle?
2026 is the biggest year in Virgin Voyages history. New ports, new itineraries, and the first adults-only Alaska season ever. Don’t wait for these sailings to fill up—inaugural pricing and first-season availability won’t last.
As your Virgin Voyages specialists and Top 100 First Mates, we’ll help you choose the perfect port, itinerary, and cabin—then handle all the details so you can focus on packing.
