Virgin Voyages Winter 2027–28 First Look: Brilliant Lady Takes On the Mexican Riviera and the Panama Canal

Every so often Virgin Voyages drops a season that changes the conversation. The winter 2027–28 release is one of those. For the first time, Brilliant Lady opens the winter season from Los Angeles, sails the only adults-only cruise in the Mexican Riviera, and connects her West Coast and Miami seasons with two genuine bucket-list voyages: full Panama Canal crossings between Los Angeles and Miami.

The Season at a Glance

Virgin released winter 2027–28 in three waves this spring — Scarlet Lady first, then Valiant and Resilient, with Brilliant Lady closing it out in March. Everything below is bookable right now, and Brilliant Lady’s season runs roughly early October 2027 through late February 2028.

One honest naming note: “winter season” is cruise-industry shorthand for the October-to-spring deployment. Calendar-wise, the Mexican Riviera leg is a fall run (as early as 9 October 2027 through late November) — which happens to be the region’s best weather window, right after hurricane season winds down — while the Caribbean leg and both canal crossings cover the true winter months.

The Mexican Riviera, Adults-Only

The Mexican Riviera has been a family-cruise stronghold for decades. That’s exactly what makes this deployment interesting: Virgin’s 7-night Mexican Riviera sailings from Los Angeles are currently the only adults-only option in the entire region. If you’ve ever wanted Cabo without the conga lines, this is the one.

Two details stand out to us. First, the itinerary includes overnight stays in Cabo San Lucas — meaning sunset dinners on land, marina nightlife, and no 4pm all-aboard cutting your day short. Second, select sailings make a maiden call to La Paz, a laid-back Baja capital that big ships have largely ignored. It’s the same “rarely sailed routes” philosophy that made Brilliant Lady’s West Coast debut such a hit this year.

One planning reality: these Riviera sailings start as early as 9 October 2027 and wrap before the canal repositioning. By January the ship is in Miami — so if you’re picturing a January or February Mexican Riviera escape, it doesn’t exist on this deployment. Book the fall window or wait a full year.

The Panama Canal Crossings: Twice a Year, Then Gone

The headline voyage of the whole release is the 17-night Panama Canal sailing from Los Angeles to Miami, departing 27 November 2027. You sail down the Pacific coast into tropical Central America, transit the canal — one of the great engineering feats on Earth — and emerge into the Caribbean with an overnight in Cartagena, Colombia before finishing in Miami.

Then, at the end of the season, Brilliant Lady runs it in reverse: a 16-night Miami-to-Los-Angeles crossing departing February 21, 2028 — the much rarer Atlantic-to-Pacific direction, calling at Cartagena, Colón, Puntarenas, Puerto Quetzal, and Cabo San Lucas.

Here’s the part that matters for planning: these crossings are offered only twice a year, and they historically sell out fast. Canal transits attract a dedicated bucket-list crowd, cabin inventory is fixed, and there’s no “wait for a better price” fallback when a sailing simply doesn’t repeat for months. Brilliant Lady’s Miami Winter

Once she reaches Miami, Brilliant Lady settles into a flexible Caribbean rhythm for the winter: 3-night escapes built around the Beach Club at Bimini, 4-night weekend runs to the Bahamas, and 5–10 night itineraries that go deeper into the islands. The 10-night sailings are the sleeper pick — proper island-hopping without flying to San Juan first.
