Virgin announced two MNVV changes in 2026. One ends name changes on new placeholders. The other quietly makes the fare you choose after conversion the protection that matters. CamJon Travel walks both — without inventing MNVV deposit dollars or a fall rollout date.
What actually changed
Effective August 6, 2026: no more name changes on newly purchased placeholders. Buy it onboard from that date forward and it stays attached to you. Virgin’s position: the program was meant to secure a Sailor’s own next voyage. Pre–Aug 6 certificates keep the terms they were bought under.
Coming fall 2026: the two-year sail-by clock is slated to become a one-year convert window — then the voyage can depart beyond the old two-year horizon. Virgin has not published an exact rollout date; it applies to placeholders bought after the change, not retroactively. Do not invent a calendar day.

Why I am glad about the name-change rule
A transferable placeholder stopped being a loyalty perk and started behaving like a currency. Tying new placeholders to the Sailor who earned them rewards the person who actually sailed. Yes, it closes a door some people used — CamJon Travel is comfortable earning the next booking by being worth calling again.
The fall change — and what not to invent
Under today’s two-year rule, a placeholder must cover a voyage departing within 24 months of deposit. Far-future seasons can be awkward if they land past that window. The new structure helps Sailors who convert within a year to whatever is then on sale and sail later — but you still cannot sit on a placeholder forever. Miss the convert window and you’ve missed it.

The consequence: fare choice is the flexibility lever
Once a placeholder becomes a booking, MNVV rules stop governing it — your fare does. With name transfers closed on new certificates, that matters more.

Why Premium is suddenly the interesting fare
Premium remains the only non-suite fare where the lead Sailor can be replaced — valuable when a placeholder is permanently attached to that Sailor and horizons stretch further. It is not automatically right for every short sailing six months out. Essential and Base can still fit certain Sailors.
