Plan My Voyage

Is Virgin Voyages Good for Young People?

Yes, Virgin Voyages can be a wonderful cruise for young adults. The better question is whether its restaurants, entertainment, destinations, and adults-only atmosphere match the vacation you want.

Is Virgin Voyages good for young people? It can be, especially if you enjoy varied dining, social spaces, and the option of lively evenings. All Sailors must be at least 18. That minimum age does not mean the ship is reserved for people in their 20s and 30s, or that everyone wants to party.

Look for a good fit, rather than an age bracket

Virgin’s published minimum age is 18. Beyond that, do not choose a departure expecting a guaranteed age mix. We do not have verified voyage-level demographic data that would justify describing the crowd as mainly people in their 20s and 30s.

You may enjoy meeting travelers of different ages who share your interests. You may prefer a vacation centered on friends your own age. Those are different priorities, and it helps to be honest about them before choosing a cruise.

Think about an ordinary afternoon and evening. Would you enjoy a long meal, time outside, a performance, and perhaps dancing? Or are you looking for constant large-scale attractions, a strictly quiet retreat, or a guaranteed spring-break atmosphere? Compare the actual ship and program with that picture.

Platinum Tier Tip: Take the Perfect Cruise Quiz and tell us what matters most. “We are 25” is useful context; “we want great food, a social atmosphere, and some quiet mornings” gives us much more to work with.

Choose your own pace for entertainment

Virgin offers shows, music, and social programming, with the lineup depending on the ship and voyage. Use the entertainment FAQ and the onboard app to see the actual events. A festival or guest performer advertised for a special sailing is not a feature of every departure.

You can enjoy a lively evening without making every night a late one. Equally, someone who wants very little exposure to parties or adult-themed entertainment should look carefully at the atmosphere before booking. Our guide to Virgin without alcohol considers the experience beyond the drink order.

Allow breathing room between dinner and a show. Read the event’s access instructions, and arrive early enough to find a place rather than expecting to walk in at the last moment. Available seats and preferred times are not guaranteed.

Make food part of the reason to go

If your ideal group evening starts with choosing somewhere interesting to eat, dining deserves a place near the top of your comparison. Look at the current venues on your selected ship, rather than assuming every ship has an identical restaurant lineup.

Virgin includes its core dining, but menus can contain separately priced enhancements and some experiences cost extra. Review Virgin’s dining guidance, make restaurant plans when your booking window allows, and keep a few alternatives. You do not need to turn every meal into a reservation puzzle.

For friends traveling together, discuss dinner expectations before boarding. Do you want to eat together every night, or choose a few shared meals? Table availability and restaurant layouts can matter more than whether everyone happens to prefer the same cuisine.

Platinum Tier Tip: Pick a few meals you are particularly excited about, then leave room for a more casual evening. A flexible plan makes it easier to enjoy the people you meet and the activities you discover onboard.

Build a realistic budget

The useful comparison is the total trip for your dates and party. Avoid a generic “starting from” price without the relevant sailing, cabin, fare terms, taxes, and occupancy. Include transport, accommodation before or after the cruise, and the spending you are likely to choose.

Separate the fare from your likely extras
Budget areaWhat to check
Core inclusionsDining, essential Wi-Fi, basic beverages, included entertainment, and group fitness classes under Virgin’s published inclusions.
Service gratuitiesSeparate from the voyage fare under the current booking structure. Check the terms attached to your reservation.
Optional spendingPremium drinks, spa treatments, excursions, upgrades, and paid experiences you actually want.

Check Virgin’s current inclusions and service-gratuity policy. Alcohol is not unlimited or automatically included in a standard fare. Everyday beverages and premium drinks are different budget categories; applicable booking or suite benefits may cover some purchases.

Use our Bar Tab Calculator to estimate your own choices. You can enjoy a cruise without trying to match anyone else’s drinks budget.

Choose the cabin for the people using it

Virgin has cabins intended for solo travelers, and its solo travel guidance also discusses occupying a double cabin alone. That does not mean every solo booking has no supplement or that a particular promotion applies to your dates. Compare the actual quote for one person in each available category.

If you are sharing with friends, look at beds, storage, bathroom arrangements, and cabin location. Saving on the room can be sensible, but only if you will be comfortable living in it together. Do not assume the least expensive fare allows you to choose a particular cabin.

Platinum Tier Tip: Agree on sleep, getting-ready time, spending, and shared plans before booking a cabin together. A little clarity now can make the vacation feel much easier.

Give your first Virgin cruise a little preparation

Start with the guide to your first Virgin cruise after another line. Restaurant reservations, show access, and the gratuity structure are details worth understanding before you arrive.

Then choose a few priorities for your own sailing: a restaurant, an evening event, time ashore, or a class that appeals to you. Leave some unscheduled space. The goal is a vacation that fits you, whether that means a busy social calendar or dinner and an early night.

Frequently asked questions

Can an 18-year-old sail on Virgin Voyages?

Yes. Virgin’s minimum age to book and sail is 18. Alcohol rules are separate and depend on the departure port and itinerary; meeting the sailing age does not override local drinking laws.

Is Virgin Voyages only for people in their 20s and 30s?

No. It is an adults-only cruise line, rather than a cruise restricted to a young-adult age bracket. Do not expect a guaranteed age mix on your departure.

Are cocktails and gratuities included in a standard Virgin fare?

Premium drinks are generally charged separately unless covered by specific booking or suite benefits. Under the current booking structure, service gratuities are separate from the voyage fare.

Do all solo travelers sail without a supplement?

No. Compare the actual single-occupancy quote for your cabin and dates. Solo cabins and any qualifying promotional offers do not make every double cabin supplement-free.
