Virgin Voyages Without Alcohol: Drinks, Evenings, and a Cruise That Fits You
Current as of September 11, 2026 · By Cameron DeJong · CamJon Travel

A beautiful dinner, a great show, a sea breeze, and a drink you actually enjoy: that can be a very good Virgin Voyages evening without any alcohol involved.
If you do not drink, the question is less about whether you can order a mocktail and more about whether the whole vacation will suit you. What will you pay for? Will a Bar Tab make sense? And can you enjoy the social side without making cocktails the center of your plans?
Start with the drinks you already like
You do not have to replace every alcoholic drink with a mocktail. If your happy place is a morning coffee, sparkling water with lunch, and something citrusy before dinner, use that as the starting point.
Virgin includes filtered still and sparkling water, fountain sodas, drip coffee, basic tea, and non-pressed juices. Its drinks FAQ lists the everyday essentials. Specialty coffees, fresh-pressed juices, smoothies, and crafted mocktails are generally priced separately, as explained in the Bar Tab guide.
Check your booking benefits before treating every premium drink as an extra expense. Mega RockStar suites include qualifying alcoholic and nonalcoholic drinks around the ship, subject to limits. A standard RockStar suite has different benefits; do not assume the two categories include the same drinks. Virgin’s drinks FAQ explains the distinction.
| Your choice | How to plan |
|---|---|
| Everyday drinks | Filtered still and sparkling water, fountain soda, drip coffee, basic tea, and non-pressed juice are included. |
| Premium drinks | Specialty coffee, fresh-pressed juice, smoothies, and crafted mocktails are generally extra. Check any applicable suite or booking benefits. |
| Optional Bar Tab | Prepaid credit for qualifying premium beverages. You can also pay as you go. |

That gives you two perfectly reasonable ways to approach the day. You might be content with the included options. Or you might enjoy a barista coffee and a more elaborate evening drink. Neither approach requires ordering something just because it appears in somebody else’s cruise budget.
When ordering, describe what appeals to you: tart rather than sweet, something refreshing with citrus, or a drink that feels special alongside dinner. Ask what the venue can make from its current selection. If you need to avoid alcohol entirely, tell the crew that specifically. Ask about every ingredient and the alcohol content of substitutions instead of relying on a name such as “mocktail” or “nonalcoholic.” We cannot verify every recipe or product onboard; choose something with ingredients you can confirm.
Decide on Bar Tab after estimating your spending
Bar Tab is optional prepaid credit for premium beverages, including nonalcoholic choices. You can also buy premium drinks individually and have them charged to your onboard account. At the end of the voyage, unused purchased and bonus Bar Tab credit is not refunded or converted into general onboard credit. Check the current Bar Tab terms before buying.
Bar Tab normally must be purchased at least 24 hours before sailing. It covers qualifying beverages onboard and at Virgin’s Beach Club at Bimini; it does not pay an independent café ashore. Check the current deadline and terms before buying. Source: Virgin Voyages.
There is a separate pre-departure cancellation rule: Virgin’s current Bar Tab offer terms allow cancellation with a refund until 24 hours before departure. That does not make leftover credit refundable after your cruise. Read the Bar Tab offer terms.
For someone who does not drink alcohol, the useful calculation starts with habits, not the biggest bonus advertised. Write down how many specialty coffees, fresh juices, or evening mocktails you would genuinely order. Consider how often you will be ashore, where a café purchase may come out of a different budget.
Then compare that estimate with the current Bar Tab choices and any drink credit already attached to your reservation. Do not count the same perk twice. A generous-looking balance is only useful if it covers things you wanted anyway.
If you expect just an occasional premium drink, paying as you go may be the more comfortable choice. That is a spending decision, not a measure of how much you will enjoy the cruise.

Give the evening something to look forward to
A common planning mistake is treating the bar as the evening’s only destination, then trying to work backward from it. Instead, choose the restaurant you are excited about or a performance you want to see. Build the rest of the evening around that.
Virgin’s daily entertainment lineup is available onboard in the app. Read individual event details: a show, a social gathering, and a drink tasting offer different experiences. See Virgin’s entertainment FAQ.
You might want to dance late. You might prefer dinner and a walk outside before bed. Choosing not to drink does not tell us which version sounds better to you, so we would ask about your interests before recommending a sailing.
For any paid experience built around alcohol, check what is included and whether there is a suitable alternative before booking it. An available mocktail elsewhere on the ship does not establish what a particular tasting or package will provide.
Be honest about the atmosphere you want
Virgin sells and promotes alcoholic drinks, and its bars and parties are part of the experience. This is not an alcohol-free ship. Someone who enjoys being around nightlife but chooses not to drink may feel very differently from someone who wants a vacation with little exposure to it.
Neither preference needs defending. Tell us which atmosphere makes you comfortable. We would rather understand that at the beginning than assume a list of nonalcoholic drinks answers the whole question.
The same applies when you travel with someone who drinks. Agree on a few shared plans, then leave room for different interests. One person can enjoy a wine-focused activity while the other does something else, with dinner together afterward. You do not need matching drink orders or identical afternoons.
A sample day built around enjoyment
Think of this as a planning sketch, not a promised onboard schedule:
- Morning: breakfast and your preferred coffee, followed by a walk or an activity that appeals to you.
- Afternoon: time ashore, a book, or a leisurely lunch depending on the itinerary.
- Evening: a restaurant you want to try, a drink chosen for its flavor, and something from that day’s entertainment lineup.
Nothing in that plan needs alcohol to make it feel complete. It does need the right itinerary, realistic timing, and enough room to change your mind.
For the wider budget, gratuities are separate from the fare under Virgin’s current structure. Once the service gratuity is covered, Virgin says additional tipping is not required for drinks, dining, or spa services. An included-drinks list does not mean every cruise expense is included; check the benefits and terms attached to your reservation. See Virgin’s current service-gratuity FAQ.

Frequently asked questions
Can I enjoy Virgin Voyages without drinking alcohol?
Yes, if the dining, entertainment, destinations, and social atmosphere suit you. Virgin serves and promotes alcohol, so this is a guide to choosing not to drink on a ship where alcohol is available.
Which nonalcoholic drinks are included?
Included basics are filtered still and sparkling water, fountain soda, drip coffee, basic tea, and non-pressed juice. Specialty coffee, fresh-pressed juice, smoothies, and crafted mocktails are generally extra, although applicable suite or booking benefits may cover them. Source: Virgin Voyages.
Do non-drinkers need to buy Bar Tab?
No. Bar Tab is optional prepaid beverage credit, and you can pay for premium drinks individually. Estimate what you will actually order and check existing credit and suite benefits before buying more. Source: Virgin Voyages.
Can I use Bar Tab at Bimini or get unused credit back?
Bar Tab covers qualifying drinks onboard and at Virgin’s Beach Club at Bimini. Unused purchased and bonus credit is not refunded at the end of the voyage. The current offer terms separately allow cancellation with a refund until 24 hours before departure. Source: Virgin Voyages.
Does a mocktail name guarantee it contains no alcohol?
Do not rely on the name alone. If you need to avoid alcohol entirely, explain that to the crew and ask about ingredients, substitutions, and the alcohol content of any products used. Choose a drink whose ingredients you can confirm.
